Amália Rodrigues is widely accepted as being the Queen of Fado and despite her death in 1999, her influence has not diminished.
An exhibition of pieces depicting Amália by 20 different artists will be on display at the Galeria Santo António in Monchique.
“For creative people, it is always a fascinating task to interpret an artist of another medium, in this case, painting a singer. The danger of sliding into cliché is always there but nonetheless the 20 painters will be showing their own versions of Amália,” said organiser Rolf Osang.
The preview is to be held on November 13 from 7pm with all the participating artists, and the Mayor of Monchique, taking part.
The exhibition will run until February 10 and is open on Tuesdays between midday and 6pm and on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from midday until 4pm.
