Quarter of Covid deaths ‘weren’t Covid deaths at all’, says study

It’s analysis that has come out of UK in the last 24-hours (click here), but the data from the Office of National Statistics will almost certainly mirror the situation in Portugal (as DGS health director Graça Freitas said as much in April 2020 when she told reporters: “we are measuring deaths from Covid even if it wasn’t the terminal event”). On that basis, the more likely death toll for Portugal since the start of the pandemic will be roughly 13,000 not the almost 17,000 currently registered.
