Quarteira’s first hostel was inaugurated on Saturday (April 30). Entitled Conii Hostel & Suites, it is located in a 19th century building on Rua Vasco da Gama, just 200 metres away from the beach.
“The building, when it was built in 1896, was also in the hospitality business and it is interesting that it has been given the same function 120 years later,” João Paulo Sousa, the hostel’s manager, told online newspaper Postal.
It is the first hostel to open in the town and boasts 58 beds and 16 rooms.
According to João Paulo Sousa, the hostel’s bunk beds offer more “privacy” than usual, as they have “curtains, their own reading light and electricity sockets”.
The hostel also features a reception, living room, community kitchen and bar.
The building’s renovation project was brought to life by Arquitectos ODS with the help of the JESSICA Fund, and focused on giving it a makeover while also maintaining its architectural traits.
The hotel’s name, Conii, was chosen as “it is the Latin name of the people who lived in the south of the Iberian Peninsula during pre-Roman times”, the manager said.
