Delicious fresh fish and seafood caught by local fishermen will be served at ‘Petiscos do Pescador’ event, which is taking place from Thursday, May 30 to Sunday, June 2 at Praça do Mar in Quarteira.
The free-to-attend event is held every year to pay tribute to the local fishermen and their important contribution to local gastronomy.
One of the highlights of the event is the ‘Lavada’, a demonstration of how the fish is brought onto land, which is planned for Sunday at 6pm at Quarteira beach.
Organisers say that everyone is invited to help pull the fishing nets ashore so that they can see the amount of fish that is captured near Quarteira.
The event also features a vast musical programme. The Remembers will perform on Thursday at 10pm while Augusto Canário will take the stage the following day.
The musical entertainment continues on Saturday with Fado singers Ana Marques and Mário Silva and Bob Marley tribute band ‘Quem é o Bob?’. Last but not least, one of Portugal’s most famous singers, Toy, will bring the event to a close on Sunday.
‘Petiscos do Pescador’ is held to commemorate Dia do Pescador (Fishermen’s Day) and is organised by local fishing association Quarpesca with the support of Loulé council and Quarteira parish council.
