Passeio da Duna, the long-awaited boardwalk connecting Quarteira with Vilamouta has been given the go-ahead.
Loulé council has awarded the project to Proap, an architectural landscape firm.
It is expected to cost nearly €3 million – €2.3 million of which will be provided by the regional programme PO Algarve 21.
The main idea is to create a vibrant new leisure focus along the coast, which everyone will be able to enjoy.
Its connection to the ocean will be the main attraction, with renewed and easier access to beaches, but Proap will also be in charge of creating multiple leisure areas along the route, as well as green spaces, all of them ensuring easy circulation for pedestrians and cyclists.
The bulk of the work will be taking place between Largo das Cortes Reais in Quarteira and Hotel Crowne Plaza.
The municipality hopes the boardwalk will be completed within 390 days, but has yet to announce when work will start.
