Quarteira has become the latest town in the Algarve to set up a shelter for homeless people to have a safe and warm place to spend the night.
Located near the municipal stadium, the shelter also provides hot meals.
Says Loulé Council, the goal is to “support the most vulnerable sector of society” at a time when the weather has been unusually cold.
Adds the council, its social services are regularly “out in the field” encouraging the homeless to use the shelter and handing out blankets and warm clothing.
