Mother and daughter killed in EN125 tragedy
A mother and daughter were killed instantly after being hit by a car on the EN125 road in Quarteira on Sunday morning (May 15). The driver attempted to flee but was restrained by witnesses until police arrived.
Reports CNN Portugal, the victims had gone for their regular walk along the side of the EN125 road, something they had done “for years”, when the tragedy occurred shortly after 7.30am in Quatro Estradas.
While the circumstances of the crash are still being investigated, GNR police believe that the car likely swerved into the opposite traffic lane and into the women, aged 75 and 47.
Jornal de Notícias adds that three people, all Portuguese, were inside the car which overturned after hitting the women.
Emergency services tried to revive the victims, but their deaths were declared at the scene.
