Visitors are invited by the fishing community of Quarteira to celebrate the Day of the Fisherman at a festival which runs from Friday until Sunday.
The festival will combine live musical performances with food tasting sessions culminating in the activity of the pulling in of the nets on the Day of the Fisherman on Sunday.
This is a traditional activity which sees members of the community and visitors work together to pull in the fishing nets with all the fish caught being donated to local charities.
Fishing remains one of the primary economic activities in Quarteira with over 200 boats using the port daily. Entrance to the festival is free.
