PEOPLE LIVING in Albufeira and Lisbon have the best quality of life in Portugal, according to a new report by the Beira Interior University.
The study, carried out by the University’s Economic and Social Development Department, places Vinhais and Sabugal in the north and central Portugal at the bottom of the table.
Based on 2004 statistics gathered by the National Institute of Statistics, the study is based on a number of variables including GDP (Gross Domestic Product) or consumption and the availability of cultural goods and takes into account three main factors: education and employment; infrastructures; and economic environment and habitation.
Lisbon heads the IQV (Quality of Life Indicator) table with 205,07 points, followed closely by Albufeira with 181.04 points. With only 5.29 points, Sabugal is at the very bottom of the table. Also in the bottom 20 is Alcoutim with 23.56 points.
