TWO BEACHES on the west coast did not apply for blue flags after water quality tests carried out last year were poor.
Praia do Vau, Portimão, and Porto de Mós, Lagos, were not put forward to receive blue flags even though they had them last year. The blue flag is a European status awarded to beaches with good quality water, sand and amenities.
A total of 48 Algarve beaches have applied for them this year but Vila do Bispo, Castro Marim and Silves council have not applied for any.
