I heard on the grapevine (literally) that this Alvarinho has just been rated by Wine & Spirits magazine as the best wines in its category with a whopping 91 points.
Hailing from a well-respected vinho verde producer (Quinta de Melgaço) and with an eye-catching if difficult-to-read label, this is a wine with a huge freshness on the nose that really captures the nature of the wonderful alvarinho grape.
The bouquet has predominant notes of lime underpinned with tropical fruits, carrying through to the palate with vibrant acidity and a persistent finish.
There are perhaps more elegant alvarinhos out there, but if you appreciate the true qualities of this most noble of Iberian white grape, this is a wine well worth the €8.99 it costs at Apolónia.
