Qatar’s Aspire Academy prepares for World Athletics U20 Championships in Algarve

Aspire Academy, a sports academy based in Qatar, is currently on a training camp in the Algarve to prepare for the upcoming World Athletics U20 Championships, due to take place in Kenya in August.

“The goal of the training camp is to prepare our athletes during training and competition,” Aspire Academy coach Lee Christopher says.

“We are also preparing our next generation of athletes for the World Athletics U20 Championships 2022,” he adds.

The team is staying at Monte Gordo and practising at the Vila Real de Santo António sports complex, also known as High Performance Centre.

The group of 19, including nine athletes, coaches, coordinators, physiotherapists, biomechanics specialist and teachers, arrived on June 7 and will remain in the region until July 4.

“We chose this training camp in Portugal, and more specifically Monte Gordo, because the sports complex, the area and the climate are perfect for what we need at this moment of our preparation,” coach Christopher says, adding that everything is going very well so far.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Lufthansa Ground Services Portugal (LGSP), Paulo Geisler, said that Portugal was picked by the Aspire Academy due to the excellent relationship that LGSP Sports by Lufthansa LGSP has with Qatar’s Athletics Federation. The team chose the Algarve for the “tranquility of our country and the excellent infrastructure that the Vila Real de Santo António High Performance Centre boasts.”
