Children who live in the Bom Samaritano Children’s Home in Alvor have received a Christmas shoe box each year since 2001.
However, this year the home is struggling to get enough boxes.
The home was opened in 1993 as a permanent residence for deprived and needy children who, due to negligence and abandonment, are unable to stay with their families.
For these children receiving their shoe boxes at Christmas is something that they look forward to on Christmas morning.
Carers at the home are now appealing to the public for anyone who can help to provide a shoe box for a child this season.
As children are of varied ages, you can contact the home to be informed of a specific child’s age and sex.
Each box can contain items such as a toothbrush, stationary for school, toys, hair accessories, hat/gloves, jewellery, sweets/chocolates, perfume/ deodorant, plus anything else that you think the child assigned to you would like.
As each child goes to a surrogate family for Christmas, all boxes are needed by December 12.
