Pupils wear goggles to play conkers

Pupils at a primary school in Manchester have been ordered to wear safety goggles to play conkers in the playground.

Staff at Adlington Primary School handed out protective glasses in case bits of smashed conkers hit children in the eyes after children at the 87-pupil school were invited to bring conkers into school for a special contest.

The children who took part in the game said they were happy to wear the protective goggles.

Playing conkers at school has been at the centre of controversy before after some schools banned them on health and safety grounds.
