In a bizarre show of zero tolerance, the Public Ministry is reported to be calling for “a severe sentence” for a pig thief who stole his neighbour’s pig by whisking it out of its sty in a wheelbarrow.
Marco Marques is believed to be part of a criminal duo that broke into houses and stole property in an around the rural community of Estarreja, in the borough of Aveiro.
One of his victims was an 82-year-old woman, the owner of the stolen pig.
“In these trials there are always funny episodes”, the prosecuting lawyer told the court. “But we cannot forget that small as they may be this kind of crime can cause insecurity and upset to victims”. This, of course, is before one considers how the pig felt.
In court throughout, Marques is reported to have confessed to some of the crimes while his accomplice “remained silent”, wrote Correio da Manhã.
