PSP police chief calls for more CCTV in Lisbon’s ‘nighttime trouble-spot’ Cais de Sodré

With figures for violent crime in Lisbon around 29.3% up on those registered this time last year, PSP police chief Magina da Silva has called for more CCTV cameras in trouble-spots of the capital, particularly Cais de Sodré where nighttime crime has become increasingly violent. He explains it is not so much that crime itself is increasing, rather the violence of the incidents. Guns and knives now are frequently involved in crimes – and there has developed a tendency for ‘crowds’ to round on police as well.
