In an attempt to make the roads safer, the Lisbon PSP police authorities recently patrolled roads in the area of Calvário. A PSP spokesperson revealed that, during the first four hours of the operation, 496 drivers were fined for having out of date MOT certification, 10 drivers were arrested – nine for driving under the influence of alcohol and the other for being disobedient. Officers also patrolled local food and drink outlets and cautioned 12 people for a range of offences, including selling food and drink from caravans illegally, lack of correct licence, infringement of the legal working hours law and selling from stalls that were blocking the right of way.
