Three people – including a PSP police agent – were shot and taken to the hospital following a car chase on the A22 motorway near Olhão.
Police were apparently trying to intercept a group of drug dealers who had travelled into the Algarve from Spain in the early hours of this Thursday morning (July 28). When they refused to stop, PSP agents started firing at the vehicle and a shootout ensued.
The two alleged drug dealers were shot, as well as one PSP agent. All were taken to Faro Hospital.
A hospital source told SIC Notícias that two are still “under observation,” while another has been considered fit to leave the hospital. The source did not specify which patients where who.
Searches were carried out in Bairro dos Índios in Olhão following the shootout. Four people were arrested, Renascença radio adds.
Authorities have said they will reveal more details later on.
