With President of Brazil Lula da Silva due to visit Portugal next week, parties of the centre right and further right are deeply uncomfortable. PSD vice-president Paulo Rangel (himself a Euro MP) has appealed to the government to ‘distance itself’ from the remarks Mr da Silva has made, particularly when it comes to his belief that Europe, the United States and NATO have ‘stimulated’ the war in Ukraine.
