PSD pledges to repeal Socialist law changes affecting short-term rental sector

In a sure-fire vote catching pledge, Portugal’s centre-right opposition PSD has assured Portugal’s association of short-term rental accommodation landlords that it will repeal the government’s measures contested by the sector in the controversial Mais Habitação (More Housing) package, being voted on in parliament today. Because PS Socialists have an absolute majority, there is little hope however of stopping these unpopular law changes coming into effect (even if only temporarily). Nonetheless, PSD MP Márcia Passos has told the association that as far as her party is concerned, the measures represent “a disproportionate attack” on short-term (AL) lets, “without any justification” from a technical, juridical or legal point of view.
