PSD leader to embark on four-day Algarve visit

Luís Montenegro will visit every borough in Algarve

PSD President Luís Montenegro will visit the Algarve between Monday and Thursday (November 13 and 16), with planned stops in every municipality in the region.

“The four days will be dedicated to visiting every borough in the Algarve in order to deepen knowledge about the region’s fundamental issues,” the country’s main opposition party said in a statement.

The programme includes a train ride between Tunes and Portimão, a stop at the University of the Algarve to learn about its Medicine master’s degree and a visit to the Foupana stream to learn more about the region’s water management projects.

Montenegro will also visit the Sagres Fortress and meet with citizen’s movements about the renovation of the eastern section of the EN125 road, the construction of a footbridge in Tavira, and the issue of pollution at the Ria Formosa estuary.

Cristóvão Norte, President of PSD Algarve, said that he hopes the visit will lead to a “strong and transformative political programme” for the region.

“The interest of the party’s president in the region’s main issues is a very important sign, and I won’t stop demand that projects that have been in the pipeline must inevitably move forward in the next mandate,” Norte added.

Coincidence or not, the announcement of this visit to the Algarve came just two days after Prime Minister António Costa resigned, prompting an early election which has been called for March 10, 2024.
