PSD leader accuses PM of wanting citizens “to get used to poverty”

The aftershocks caused by what all agree was an unfortunate interview with prime minister António Costa last week (the PM has been widely criticised for coming over as unnecessarily course, and extremely arrogant), have seen PSD leader Luís Montenegro appropriate the ‘get used to it’ jibe at members of the opposition, suggesting Mr Costa wants citizens to “get used to poverty”. Contrary to Mr Costa’s remark that political opponents need to get used to Socialists being in power, Mr Montenegro has said the government has to get used to a “demanding and vigilant opposition”. Elsewhere, former PSD prime minister (albeit very briefly) and television commentator Pedro Santana Lopes has said the PS has to get used to the idea that it won’t actually remain in power for the four years left to run of this current legislature.
