Proposal to make Portuguese government green

The idea to buy MPs and government departments 1,250 electric cars and hybrids by 2020 was put forward this week by Jorge Moreira da Silva, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Territorial Planning.
Under his ministry’s “Green Pledge” programme, da Silva claims the government will save hundreds of thousands in energy bills. A pilot scheme, involving the use of four electric vehicles and one hybrid, has already saved “almost €1,000 in two months”, he said.
