Parque da Floresta golf and leisure resort celebrated the changing of the seasons with its ever popular Autumn Festival recently. A week’s worth of golf competitions and parties kept residents and holidaymakers busy, both on and off the course.

The festival kicked off with a Texas Scramble Golf Competition. Competitors and friends then gathered in the Spike Bar to toast a spectacular hole in one on the 11th by Floresta Parque Golf Club member, Hilary Blythe. The festive spirit continued into the evening with an ‘Ode to Autumn’ Dinner Dance. On Sunday afternoon, a mid festival barbecue buffet gave golfers a chance to exchange tactics and compare standings, while Tuesday afternoon saw another fantastic feat when Barry Gordon made a hole in one on the fifth.

The week’s victors celebrated at the festival finale, the ‘Pirates of the Atlantic’ prize-giving dinner where swashbuckling golfers were wined and dined before being called to the prize table to collect their treasures. First up were Paul Bettis, Paul Brennan, Terry Jennings and Duane Harvey, who won the Texas Scramble with a score of 54.9. The Owner’s Trophy went to ladies winner Liz Thunhurst with 40 points, while Nigel Driver took the Gent’s Trophy with a score of 44. Mr. D. Collier was awarded the St. António Plate with 40 points, before Liz Thunhurst and Nigel Driver were called back up to collect the coveted Golf Santo António Cup, with respective scores of 74 and 79.

First place in the Parque da Floresta Challenge Cup went to Andy Deaton and John Dransfield with their score of 45, while father and son team of Daniel and Nick Bowman scored 59 to win the Vigia Trophy. The festival’s final competition, the President’s Prize was won by team-mates Jim Brennan, Paul Brennan, Paul Wakefield and Paul Bettis with a score of 124.
