The Government has decided to postpone indefinitely the privatisation of the national television station RTP, which was discussed at the Council of Ministers. It was also decided that Miguel Relvas, the Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, will lead the company’s restructuring at a cost of €42 million.
According to newspaper Expresso, €30 million will be paid in compensations by the government. Official sources admit that dismissals could reach between 400 and 600 workers.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Portas, had agreed to add the sale of a public television channel to the government’s privatisation programme according to market conditions, butrefused to accept the RTP1 privatisation in the current context.
