STREET CLEANING in Loulé town centre will no longer be carried out by council staff but will be subcontracted to CEPSA, a private cleaning firm from Spain.
CEPSA is already responsible for the street cleaning in Quarteira and will now employ a team of 14 people to work in Loulé. The firm will deploy two vehicles to clean the streets of Loulé, one to collect the waste from the large public bins and another specialist vehicle to wash the roads in the town’s centre. During the summer, the company will also be responsible for the cleaning of the rubbish bins and the underground refuse storage units on a fortnightly basis. Throughout the rest of the year, this will only be done once a month.
The council’s own waste management and hygiene department will continue to be responsible for street cleaning and rubbish collection in other areas surrounding the town centre, such as Gonchina and the new urbanisations in Campina de Cima.
The contract with CEPSA is worth 516,000 euros and the company operates a freephone helpline which is 800 206 947.
