THE RINGLEADER of an attack by English football fans on a Portuguese bar in Croydon, on the night of the Euro 2004 England-Portugal match, has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison. Sean McElroy was described by the judge as “the main person involved in the violence”, following the study of CCTV footage. Several other England fans involved in the attack were sentenced to serve minor prison sentences for their part in the disorder. A number of Portuguese fans were injured when trouble flared-up at the bar last summer.
