More traditionally the domain of overworked/ underpaid nurses and doctors, prison bosses are now requesting ‘excuse of responsibility’ due to the lack of guards necessary to maintain order in prisons. According to the declaration sent to the director general of prison services Rui Abrunhosa, the syndicate of prison managers claims the environment in prisons is “explosive” with prison guards experiencing ‘burnout’ (exhaustion) and unable to take responsibility any longer for “things that could go wrong during their work”…
