Around 50 protesters fighting against growing poverty confronted the Prime Minister in Aveiro on Monday. Pedro Passos Coelho had visited the city to attend the Global Compact Network conference, when members of workers’ unions from Aveiro started shouting things like “the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer” and “we say no to inequality”. Responding to the words of protest, the Prime Minister said it was important to create opportunities for people to earn more income but “we cannot promise to give what we don’t have”.
