Following yesterday’s news of yet another hike in the price of fuel at the pumps, today brings even worse: diesel is expected to rise by 14 cents next week, making it more expensive than petrol.
Media sources cite “the increase in prices of fuel products on international markets”.
Yesterday, Portugal was bracing for an increase in the cost of petrol of 8 cents per litre from Monday, 7 cents per litre for diesel. Now that latter figure has suddenly been doubled.
As a result, the government has again delayed ‘updating’ its carbon tax on fuel products (due to have come into effect at the end of March), as this would have added another 5 cents to prices across the board.
