Preventing poverty

A charity golf tournament, The Lemon Tree Masters, will be held on June 2 in aid of impoverished child Pedro Andres.

Event organisers, ACCA, the association helping children in need across the Algarve, have arranged for the tournament to take place at the Laranjal golf course in Quinta do Lago, where golfers in teams of two will participate in formats including Stableford and Betterball.

To take part, it will cost €110 per person and €35 of that will go to ACCA.

The price will include the game, a buggy plus lunch, and the event will also feature sponsored holes and prizes.

Proceeds will go towards helping seven year old Pedro, who lives in destitute conditions with his grandmother, without running water or electricity, and is forced to visit the local community centre in order to shower.

During the summer months of July and August, ACCA aims to send Pedro to summer camp in order to keep him off the streets, while not in school.

This experience is hoped to enrich his life and encourage his quest for survival and education.
