The medical doctor to the President of Portugal has “categorically” refuted rumours that Cavaco Silva suffered from Parkinson’s disease. Dr Daniel de Matos told Saturday publication Revista that Cavaco Silva looked like a “Prussian army officer” when he walked. “Have you not noticed?” he said, implying that the President did not suffer from the degenerative neurologic illness. He was also the official physician to former Presidents Jorge Sampaio, whom he described as a “disciplined patient”, and Mário Soares, who was in “excellent health”.
