President Marcelo is hedging his bets over the opinions of ‘experts’, and prime minister António Costa, who are of the opinion that inflation is cyclical, and that it will only ‘last weeks or a few months’. “We will see”, the Head of State told journalists today, following a visit to the headquarters of the national authority for Emergency and Civil Protection in Oeiras. “If there is another wave of the pandemic or the war lasts a long time, then it is very difficult to make a forecast,” he concluded. Whatever happens, Marcelo said he believes inflation will make itself felt in Portugal until “certainly the end of the year”.
