President Marcelo is in travel mode: following recent visits to Brazil, Angola, the United States, Malta and Cyprus (where he is today), Portugal’s head of State will be heading to Ireland – for the first official visit paid by a Portuguese president since 2004 – on October 18. The objectives of the trip are to “strengthen relations with Irish authorities, in a European context, bearing in mind the post-Brexit situation and the relationship with the United Kingdom” – as well as to make contact with Ireland’s Portuguese emigré community. The visit will run until October 21.
