Five hundred supporters, officials and players joined the Guest of Honour His Excellency Cavaco Silva at the Real Marina Hotel in Olhão last Saturday to celebrate 100 years of service to the community by Sporting Clube Olhanense. The President of Portugal, who was born in Boliqueime and is an honorary socio-member of Olhanense, praised the leaders, athletes and coaches and made special mention of the dynamic leadership of Olhanense President Isidoro Sousa.
Centre-half Mauricio received the Player of the Year Award. Chris Wright was nominated as Sócio do Ano (Supporter of the Year) and became the first non-Portuguese to receive the prestigious award.
Emily Richardson presented Tavira born goalkeeper Bruno Verissimo with a bottle of champagne in recognition of his 17 years with the club.
