ristina Fraga, president of the administrative board of Ponta Delgada’s Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo, has tendered her resignation today following the bloc resignation on Wednesday of 21 of the hospital’s 25 directors of service in the A&E department . The reasons given for the mass resignations were “lack of human means to complete schedules in December”. Yet a statement from the hospital today “assures that patient care is guaranteed”. This statement rings a tad hollow bearing in mind the warning yesterday, from Margarida Moura, the Azores’ representative for the General Medical Council, about “lack of conditions of assistance for patients in the hospital, namely in general surgery”…
