President Marcelo schedules four-day official visit to Canada

President Marcelo will be visiting Canada between September 13 – 17 to mark 70 years since the arrival of the first Portuguese emigrés to the country. He will be travelling to Montreal and Toronto, and will have meetings with representatives of the Portuguese community, Belém Palace has confirmed. According to the office of migrations, around 134,000 citizens born in Portugal live in Canada. The number of Portuguese descendants is “a great deal higher”. 2021 Census data puts the number at around 400,000.
