Portimão is the ‘next stop’ on President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s summer tour of the Algarve. He will be meeting with the region’s mayors today for a work dinner at the town’s Faina restaurant at around 8pm.
The president has been visiting the Algarve at least once a week to support the region he admits was hit the hardest by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the British government’s decision to exclude Portugal from its travel corridor.
He wants to show people that the Algarve is safe whilst also meeting regularly with local mayors to stay up to date with issues affecting the popular holiday destination.
These weekly visits are expected to continue until at least the end of September.
