President Marcelo in Messines today to mark poet João de Deus’s 190th anniversary

Portuguese President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will be taking part today in the celebrations of the 190th anniversary of poet and educator João de Deus in São Bartolomeu de Messines (Silves).

The festivities, which will be streamed live on the municipality’s Facebook page (Município de Silves), will begin at 6.45pm at the Francisco Vargas Mogo auditorium.

The event will feature several literary and cultural activities in honour of the poet, who was born in 1830 in Messines.

President Marcelo and Silves Mayor Rosa Palma are expected to give speeches.
