Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has described the country’s reopening to “non-essential travel” as the first step towards the recovery of its economy.
“After many difficult months, we know how joyful it is to see the revival of our economy,” said the president this Tuesday morning, adding that it is a sign that the “brighter future” that so many had been looking forward is inching nearer.
As media outlets reported today, around 25,000 holidaymakers (mostly Brits) are due to arrive in the Algarve by the end of this week.
On Monday alone, thousands of overjoyed British tourists landed at Faro Airport (click here).
