President Marcelo is reported to be “concerned over the way the government is planning the country’s deconfinement, and wants to make his distance from the plans clear”, reports Público.
As a result he has decided not to address the nation as he habitually does following the renovation of a State of Emergency by parliament later today.
Says the paper he will publish a note on his official site “but he will not be the spokesperson for the strategy for combating the pandemic, as he has been (in the past)”.
Portugal’s Head of State is currently on his way to the Vatican for the first official visit of his 2nd mandate, and will leave “the full stage to the government to present its deconfinement plan” at some point later this evening.
Updates to follow.
