President in London for 650th anniversary of Anglo-Portuguese Alliance

President Marcelo is being received at Buckingham Palace this morning by King Charles III to mark the 650th anniversary of the British-Portuguese Alliance. After the national anthems, the two heads of state will review the parade of British and Portuguese troops, and then attend the ceremony together in Queen’s Chapel at Saint James’s Palace. This event has been  promoted by Portugal-UK 650, an unofficial voluntary and non-profit initiative that organised the celebrations of the 650th anniversary of the Luso-British Alliance.  After the ceremony, the Portuguese president has been invited to a reception hosted by the current Duke of Wellington, Charles of Wellesley, at Apsley House, the family’s former residence which is now a historical heritage site and museum. The British King will not be present, but will be represented by his mother’s cousin, the Duke of Gloucester, Prince Richard, and his wife, the Duchess of Gloucester, Birgitte van Deurs Henriksen.
