Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has convened a Council of State for Friday afternoon, neatly timed to follow the results of the ‘State of the Nation’ debate in parliament on Thursday. The idea is to analyse the economic, social and political situation in Portugal – but it is expected that Marcelo will have something to say about a number of recent controversies, not least the ‘whitewash’ political report into management decisions at national airline TAP. The presidential Council of State brings together current and former political leaders/ presidents and academic professionals.
