It was at his invitation that defence minister João Cravinho Gomes and President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa visited Alfaiate naval base in Lisbon to watch three impressive military exercises, designed to give “a dynamic demonstration of the capabilities of the Navy and National Maritime Authority”. The day started with the simulation of the rescue of a hostage on board a boat carrying the President of the Republic, and went on in a similar very dynamic vein.
