President attends military exercises at Alfaiate naval base, on invitation of Admiral Gouveia e Melo

He said he would be happy to ‘go back to the Navy and anonymity’ when he finished his stint as the head of Portugal’s vaccination task force, but today Admiral Gouveia e Melo was anything but anonymous. It was at his invitation that defence minister João Cravinho Gomes and President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa visited Alfaiate naval base in Lisbon to watch three impressive military exercises, designed to give “a dynamic demonstration of the capabilities of the Navy and National Maritime Authority”. The day  started with the simulation of the rescue of a hostage on board a boat carrying the President of the Republic, and went on in a similar very dynamic vein.
