It is 1987 and 16 year old Claireece Precious Jones is growing up in Harlem, New York with her dysfunctional family. Abused by her mother, raped by her father, she grows up poor, angry, illiterate, unloved and generally unnoticed. Audiences are guided through the life of Precious as the teenager, pregnant with her second child, enrols at a new school and hopes for new direction in her life.
