Lagoa’s Praia da Marinha beach has been named one of the “best beaches in Europe” by online portal ‘European Best Destinations’.
Praia de Miramar in Vila Nova de Gaia also made this year’s list, which includes 15 of the “most beautiful beaches of the European coastline”, ideal for “relaxing, partying or simply walking”.
Placed sixth, Praia da Marinha is described as “one of the most emblematic and beautiful beaches of Portugal … not only known for “its beautiful cliffs, but also for the high quality of the water”.
The portal adds that the beach has “often been used by international advertising agencies and by television producers in advertising campaigns… and it was awarded with the “distinguished ‘Golden Beach’ award by the Portuguese Ministry of the Environment in 1998 due to its “outstanding natural qualities”.
Used to praise, Praia da Marinha was named last year as one of the world’s “20 Most Stunning Cliffside Beaches” by American news giant CNN.
Praia de Miramar in Vila Nova de Gaia – famous for its chapel that borders the sea – has also been singled out by ‘European Best Destinations’ this year, coming in 10th on the list.
