YOUNG VOLUNTEERS from the Bombeiros watched their elder counterparts as they coordinated resources in response to a practice major incident in Ourique on Saturday, May 31.
A crew with breathing apparatus entered a building in the lower section of a town centre building while others from the team used the roof of an internet café to access the upper floors before evacuating casualties from the windows to waiting ambulance staff in the square below.
The GNR redirected traffic from the town centre as members of the Bombeiros used tankers and breathing apparatus to perform the mock rescue. Bombeiros Commanders were on hand to oversee the actions and take notes for the de-briefing that followed.
Later in the evening a dance was held to raise money for protective equipment for the Ourique division.
