Power tariff hike

Portugal registered the third highest increase in domestic electricity costs in Europe in one year. According to Eurostat figures, electricity costs in Portugal rose 13% between the second half of 2010 and the second half of 2011, only surpassed by Latvia and Cyprus where power tariffs increased 27% and 19% respectively. On average, the cost of electricity in the EU increased 6.3% in that period. In Portugal, 100kWh electricity cost around €18.8, slightly more than the EU average of €18.4.
