The brave young GNR officer who saved two women hostages from a gunman in Pinhal Novo, Palmela, last year before being shot to death has been promoted to corporal (‘cabo’) in a posthumous award ceremony presided over by government minister Miguel Macedo. The killing of 27-year-old Bruno Chainho shocked the nation in November. His killer, a veteran of the Afghan war, was later gunned down by GNR officers.
