Post office faces closure

Residents in Ferragudo are concerned about the potential closure of the village’s post office.

Both the President of the Parish Council Luís Alberto and Algarve PSD MP Mendes have requested clarification from the government on the intention to close the local postal service.

A council meeting in 2006 debated the possibility of renovation works being carried out at the post office to provide a better service both to residents of the village as well as those in the Parchal and Estombar parishes which do not have the service.

However, last year, it was announced that the post office was at risk of closure in 2012.

In a letter sent to the President of Parliament this week, Mendes Bota wants to know whether the CTT intend to close the Ferragudo Post Office, the reasons and what are the plans in terms of a replacement for the service.
